I first met Sean in 1996. He showed up to an event I was performing at in Grant Park. He had a hawaiin shirt on, a congo drum in his hand and a big ole smile on his face. We connected right away. We threw alot of DIY events together in houses, lofts and warehouses to follow. I developed some serious addiction issues and I believe I wouldn't be alive if it weren't for several interventions by Sean. I'm grateful we got to laugh, hug and catch up recently (with me finally sober and clean for a few years). I was really happy to have Sean back in my life. It was a heartbreaking surprise to see him go. My condolences to the family. What an amazing man.

When Sean was about 20, he was driving back from some dinner and this guy was driving kind of funny toward us. Sean says "This guy is going to hit me." A couple of seconds later the guy weaves and clicks Sean's VW van a little bit. Sean was mad, clearly, but then got out of the van with a smile on his face and says to the guy "Hey are you alright? I saw you coming and it could have been worse. You're sure you're ok?" It took me some time to realize that Sean wasn't mad at the guy, but himself for seeing something and not being able to do anything about it. We are all so glad that his ability to do something about it, has graced and inspired us all to do the same. God speed, Sean. Love you man.

Sean, I will always remember you as the kind, generous, compassionate and giving person you were. But I will most remember you for giving my best friend, and my "third" sister Erin, the absolute best years of her life. You made her so happy and I could just tell how much you both loved one another. And for that, I'm grateful. Thank you for loving her and for sharing your amazing self with her. I have no doubt that because of you, many lives were changed for the better and impacted in ways that have stayed with those people their whole lives. That is amazing, what a legacy that will live on forever. I'm thankful to have known you and you are so missed by so many. Myself, Matt, Gavin and my entire family send their deepest condolences to Erin and your family. I want to end with a small memory that makes me smile. I remember once when Erin and I ordered Papa Johns and we pigged out on it. By the time you got home, we were sitting on the couch like stuffed pigs, with one piece of pizza between us. Erin offered you the last piece. You gave a half-grin, shook your head at us, picked up something else to eat and left. Silly and small, but it still makes me smile. Rest in peace, my friend.

Dec 5, 2016

On Tuesday, November 29th, our close friend Sean McKeough passed. There are no words to express our shock and sadness. It's taken quite a bit of time to begin processing this and attempt to put these emotions on paper. Sean was a modern day Patron of the Arts who took an interest in the music community, our band in particular. He gave Naked Raygun a home when the previous Naked Raygun World Headquarters was just a PO Box. He welcomed us into his personal practice studio above Cobra Lounge, fed us, gave us drinks and made sure we had everything we wanted. His generosity was beyond measure. Sean's sense of hospitality was so boundless that he even named his brewery after our album All Rise and called the first beer on tap Wonder Beer after one of our songs. Although Sean preferred to stay out of the spotlight, he had an impressive work ethic, was incredibly driven and quietly humble about his accomplishments. Sean was fiercely loyal to his friends and there was no limit to his kind-heartedness. We join our Cobra Lounge, All Rise Brewing Company and Riot Fest family in mourning the man that took care of us all. Our deepest condolences go out to Erin and the McKeough family with hopes that in someway we can help share the love and support that Sean had always shown us. We are honored to have called you our friend and our lives are all the better for having known you. We will miss you buddy. Eric, Jeff, Pierre and Bill

Sean was my neighbor when I had Mad Bar on Damen and one my favorite people and a great conversationalist. I can't count how many conversations we had about how things were and how they ought to be. My favorite memory of him was during my backpacking trip through Europe, I ran in to him in Amsterdam. As it turned out, we were accidentally watching the same street performance when I started laughing. Those of you who know me, know I have a distinct laugh. Someone from across the crowd called out my name, "Arman, is that you? I recognize that laugh anywhere!" Imagine my surprise! We had a blast that day hanging out together and I remember it so vividly after all these years. Sean was always brilliant and way ahead of his time. It broke my heart to hear the news. Please accept my condolences, your loss is our loss and a loss for this city which is now deprived of such a brilliant man at such a young age. It makes me utterly sad when I try to imagine what he would have accomplished with more time. Rest in Peace old friend.

Sean, we met at our first event at Cobra, next to your screamin cruiser. Had a few laughs, we parted and I went inside to continue my duties for the event. Later, in effort to support our cause inconspicuously, your generosity poured out, pretty much taking all the silent auction items. I didn't know who you were when we met, but felt you as a genuine, down to earth guy. In reading the other stories, that's just the way your were... You impressed us and all of our volunteers that night! I wish we'd have had more chances to talk... The mold has been broken. My thoughts and prayers reach to your family and friends tonight, for their loss. RIP Sean.

I lived in Chicago from 1994 until 1997 (when I was 18 - 20 years old) and Sean was one of my favorite people back then. Seeing the news that he had died opened a flood of memories from that time in my life including some vivid little moments spent with him. I can picture him in this brown corduroy jacket he wore, standing outside a club in the freezing Chicago winter air, smoking cigarettes with me and talking about life. Thanks for being awesome, Sean. Even though we lost touch after I moved back to Texas and many years have passed, I never forgot you (and never will).

I owe Sean so much. I wouldn't be living on the beach in Thailand without him. I most likely wouldn't have met my wife and had my two children without his help. He always inspired me to keep working and grinding. When we first met we were just getting on with our lives. We owned businesses together, had so many laughs together, and we were both crazy and pushed for excellence at an age when most people just wanted to party. We did both! We lived! We never took a day for granted and it was never about the money. It was always about helping people and building great things. I just wish why I was back in the USA I would have had that one more time reminiscing about the midget in the shieks limo and our many trips around the world. I will think of you every time I am not laughing or enjoying the time I have left. You will always be missed my brother and I will carry on your will to keep having fun and being motivated. "He drives the EX, the extra X, they use them in the slot cars dude" I have about 5 hours of video of Sean and a lot of his close friends traveling around the world. I will edit them one day and post it on my Facebook! Love ya Sean!

What a loss this is for so many folks here in chicago and around the world. Sean was a force of nature, his candle burned as bright as any that I've known. It was a joy to watch him work on the floor, and a much greater pleasure to collaborate on events and work together in our second careers. I'm grateful to have been in Sean's orbit. I know many of us that share that feeling. Brother you've left a hole that can never be filled. Thanks for everything that you did for us and the example that you set. You were a champion for high performing misfits. You'll be in my heart forever, I'll do my best to lead my crew with the passion, love, committment and integrity which you lead yours. I am an old friend of Sean's from grade school. We spent a lot of time together, particularly in 7th and 8th grade, usually at McQ's house, which was a meeting spot for many of us from our class at St. Barnabas. We lost touch but randomly reconnected when we happened on be on a flight together to Vegas about 5 years ago. We filled each other in on the past 15 years of our lives, we later hung out at Cobra Lounge, and we kept in touch for a while. I'm glad we reconnected, and as I read these comments about Sean, I'm so happy and proud that as an adult he touched so many people in meaningful, positive ways. I'll remember McQ in that way; I'll remember him as he was when we were 12 and 13 year-old kids when Sean was hosting the first boy/girl parties we ever attended; and I'll remember him for his sense of humor and friendship.

Sean was a truly honorable everyday hero. When I was in the SPX, everyone tried to yell at me, push me around, not give me trades, make fun of me. He was the only one who gave me any respect. He saw the effort that the little people put in, the struggle that the least and the little goes through. He was a man with true strength. He did not get strong by belittling the weak, he was strong because he gave others the power to struggle through their weakness. He gave others hope.
